ACNM Past President's Study on Midwifery Research Priorities For Maternal and Newborn Health Published in The Lancet Global Health

An estimated 300,000 women worldwide die every year during pregnancy, childbirth, or soon after, and nearly 3 million infants die in the first month of life. Prioritizing research into midwifery — particularly on family planning, preterm births, and high-quality care — can help address these unacceptably high rates of death for newborn children and women giving birth, according to a study led by Dr. Holly Powell Kennedy, PhD, CNM, FACNM, FAAN, executive dean of the Yale School of Nursing and a past president of ACNM, and published in The Lancet Global Health.

The American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM) today announced that Frank Purcell will become its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) effective October 17, 2016. Purcell joins ACNM from the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA) where he most recently served as the Senior Director of Federal Government Affairs. He also worked 11 years on Capitol Hill in the offices of 3 members of the U.S. House of Representatives.
