DE Affiliate of the American College of Nurse Midwives
Meet Our Affiliate Officers!
President- Elizabeth Sushereba CNM, MSN
Over 20 years midwifery experience, from Africa to Delaware, and places in between. What a wonderful road it has been to travel on and I will continue as long as God wills.
Elizabeth graduated from the University of Pennsylvania's Midwifery program and currently works within the Christiana Care Health System providing full scope midwifery care.
Vice President - Kathleen McCarthy, CNM, MSN
Kathleen has been practicing as a nurse midwife for over fourteen years. She received her Masters degree in nurse midwifery at University of Pennsylvania. Kathleen is one of the co-owners, but has retired from catching babies. Currently, Kathleen’s focus is on holistic women’s healthcare, women’s health education, holistic menopause, childbirth education and empowerment workshops.
Kathleen says, “Practicing as a nurse midwife is one of the most rewarding journeys I have ever taken. It has brought me from hospital birth to my beloved home at The Birth Center. I have learned much from my experiences with women and families. Most importantly, it has taught me that we all have the right to make well informed educated choices and that all women are powerful beyond measure and have an innate ability to know what is best for them.”
Secretary - Lindsay Dormer Robinson, MSN, CNM, MPH
I graduated from the University of Pennsylvania's Nurse Midwifery and Women's Health Program in 2012. Since then I have been working with Dedicated to Women OBGYN at Kent General Hospital. My special interests are natural childbirth, home birth, breastfeeding and postpartum wellness. I also precept Nurse Midwife and Nurse Practitioner students. As secretary of the Delaware ACNM Affiliate, my goal is to help promote Midwifery throughout the state of Delaware to all women and families. There are a number of excellent Midwives in Delaware and I am excited to continue to build a strong professional and supportive network for practitioners throughout Delaware.
Legislative Affiliate - Sandy Elliott, CNM, MSN
I graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1988, and came to Delaware to work in the Kent General Prenatal clinic. This was a joint project between the hospital, Public Health and the private OBs. When the clinic closed in 1989 I moved to Owensboro KY to work in the Green River Health Department. I got homesick for Delaware and came home a year later. Since then, I have worked in a variety of clinics, private practices and owned my own practice in Milford for 4 years. I am currently working as a nursing instructor for the University of Delaware, and teach in the graduate and undergraduate programs.
I started the Delaware Affiliate 4 years ago at the urging of Kate McHugh who was our Region III Representative and my former instructor at Penn. I am the CNM on the Advanced Practice Committee of the Board of Nursing. Every APN group is represented on this committee. We are working on passing the Consensus Model in Delaware. Some of my other committees include the Fetal Infant Mortality Review (FIMR), Maternal Mortality Review (MMR), Standards Committee and Health Disparities Committee of the Delaware Healthy Mothers and Infants Consortium (DHMIC).
My goal for the Affiliate is to provide support for both the novice and seasoned midwives in Delaware, so they can practice to the full extent of their license and education.
Many thanks to others who volunteer their time and energy to our Affiliate!
